Web developer for shipping service

December 11th, 2011 Job at Go Go Go

Miami, FL — I am looking to implement an online platform for international mail forwarding. Our mission is to allow international customers to buy in the US, ship to our warehouse address in the USA and then forward their packages to their international address using any of the major US shipping carriers (DHL, FedEx, UPS, and USPS).

Looking for somebody that has at least 3+ years experience in web development in particular with integrating any of the above mentioned carriers API’s in order to support the core of our operations. Preferably we would like someone with experience in developing a solid foundation that will allow us to expand exponentially (providing an external API down the road and other extensive features built on the base of our application. More on this later.)

We are looking to launch this application by no later than early summer 2012 in order to roll it out and identify bugs from then to busy holiday season 2012 (October through December).

You would be working closely with myself and receiving feedback from 2 colleague developers (not part of the team).

Currently I have flowcharts, written specifications and a high fidelity wire-frame to help explain what I am looking for. Current flowcharts and specifications are not fixed because I am open to feedback and alternative suggestions from you.

I am not fixed on using a specific language or development model as long as you are good at it.

A summary of the major features we need:
• Sign Up/Login module – using OAuth/Open ID
• DHL, FedEx, UPS and USPS API integration – This is the core of our platform and will allow our customers to quote, ship and track their shipments.
• Payment gateway integration – Ability to integrate a payment gateway. A specific gateway has not been defined, but knowledge of popular PayPal, VeriSign and Google Checkout is ideal.
• Billing Module – allow us to charge recurring and individual items based on customer preferences and selections.
• Dashboard module (customer facing) – allow customers to self manage their account. This would be interface the user would see for a summary and detail of their shipments.
• Administrative module (internal use) – management module in order to manage user accounts, site wide preferences, reporting and accounting.
• Package receipt module – this would be used in the receiving of packages in our warehouse and assigning them to user accounts. Similar functionality to a basic Warehouse Management System (WMS) would be ideal in order to easily store and retrieve packages.
• Picture and document Management – to allow users to see a picture or scan of their packages in their dashboard.
• Customer Service – develop or integrate the ability to provide customer service to users with attention to detail.

In order to make sure you understand our project scope, we would need to setup a quick meeting in order to show the high fidelity wire-frame, current specifications and flowcharts I have.

Job Requirements:
• Provide an estimated timeline for the complete project based on initial agreed specifications and stick to it
• Ability to communicate via Skype or other video messaging platform to discuss progress and features.
• Establish a project tracker for feedback and bug reports.
• Be able to show code progress by saving to a shared storage so we can monitor progress.
• Portfolio of previous web development
• Code should be documented in English
• Work with my team and I in order to make sure software aligns with business functionality

Minimum skills qualifications:
• JavaScript
• CSS
• Messaging systems like RabbitMQ or ZeroMQ
• Database design
• Payment gateway integration (Authorize.net, PayPal, VeriSign, Google Checkout or be familiar with implementation methods for other major gateway providers).
• DHL, FedEx, UPS and USPS API integration experience

Preferred qualifications:

• API development
• Google Ajax API
• jQuery
• HTML5
• Asterisk PBX integration

Compensation:
I am looking to find an individual that will agree to a fixed price model or reasonable hourly rate (I do have a limited budget, but if our service takes off, I will certainly provide a bonus). I have a semi-final defined project specifications and flowcharts that will provide clarity on requirements. You can work remotely or in-house (Sunny South Florida. Miami, FL) where a desk, internet connection, computer and food will be provided in our office (available to work whenever.)

Ability to provide a great end product will lead to future work for you as we will definitely need to expand.
